Funcom Says Age Of Conan Servers Won't Have Problems

Can Funcom's Age Of Conan servers handle 500K or more players on day one? That is the question that everyone is asking, particularly in the light of failed launches in the past. Well, today, May 17th 2008, is the big day. Will those who have early access codes and didn't get the shutout be able to get on the system and play? Good question.

Funcom has had about 1 million sign-ups so far for the game but not everyone will be allowed in on day one. They're calling it the largest pre-launch or beta signup in MMORPG history. We can only hope that they have planned adequately for the event.

As always, the big factor is how well the servers will hold up during the initial rush. No amount of pre-testing can prepare a web server network for the onslaught of a half million or more wannabe Hyborians at once. Funcom says that they have backups for backups for backups to insure the system stays up and running. They also claim to have a queuing system which is sure to generate controversy as gaming starts inside of Age of Conan.

They say they've been working a year on this. Well, let's see how well they've learned from their own mistakes and the mistakes of other MMORPG games.

We can only hope that this launch of Age Of Conan goes smoothly.
